About Ryde Neighbourhood Board

Ryde Neighbourhood Board brings together local people, community organisations, businesses and public sector partners to help shape the future of Ryde. As part of the Government’s Pride in Place programme, and supported by significant investment, it provides a way for the community to influence how funding is used to improve the town.

Pride in Place Programme

Ryde is one of 244 towns across the UK selected to receive Government investment through the Pride in Place programme, bringing £19.5 million into the town over the next 10 years.

The programme is designed to support long-term, meaningful improvements in towns and communities, helping to enhance everyday life for people who live and work there. Rather than focusing on short-term fixes, it aims to address underlying challenges and create lasting positive change.

Ryde was chosen because, like many towns, it faces a range of challenges, including higher levels of deprivation, lower healthy life expectancy, and lower levels of skills, literacy and qualifications in some areas. This investment is intended to help tackle these issues and create new opportunities for local people and the wider community.

Community Vision and Priorities

The Vision for Ryde has been shaped through ongoing conversations with residents, community groups, businesses and local organisations, and this engagement will continue and extend as projects develop.

It sets out plans to refresh and invest in the town to help make Ryde a better place to live in, work and visit.

You told us what was important to you and the vision reflects those priorities:

Safer and more accessible public spaces
Improved access around the town and along the Esplanade
Skills and training opportunities for local people
Bringing buildings back into public use
Public realm improvements such as benches, signage, toilets and disabled access

Our Funding

Ryde’s 10-Year Vision is supported by £19.5 million of Pride in Place funding, alongside additional investment from partners, organisations and funding programmes.

The following table shows how the funding will be received over the next ten years (all values are rounded). Some early capacity funding was also provided in 2025-26.

The funding split is 75% capital (e.g. for buildings and assets) and 25% revenue (e.g. for projects and grants).

Ryde Neighbourhood Board will also work with local and national partners to attract further funding and align with other programmes, helping to maximise investment and create long-term positive change for the town.

Board Members

Ryde Neighbourhood Board is the decision-making body responsible for overseeing investment in Ryde and ensuring community voices are central to shaping the town’s future.

The Board will at any one time have up to 16 members, some of whose roles are mandatory including: an independent Chair, local MP for the constituency that covers Ryde, two nominated Isle of Wight Council representatives, Police and Crime Commissioner or nominated deputy.

The Isle of Wight Council are the accountable body for Ryde Neighbourhood Board and will hold all public funding received on behalf of the Board.

Meeting papers

Ryde Neighbourhood Board meets monthly on the first Friday of each month.
