David was born and educated in Ryde, later working for John Laing Construction on the mainland, where he qualified as a Chartered Builder. He later completed a master’s degree in Building Conservation. His family has deep roots in Ryde, with seven generations involved in construction and local organisations since 1806.

David returned to Ryde in 1979 to run the family business and has been actively engaged in community service ever since. He was a member of Ryde Round Table from 1984 to 1996 and has been a committed member of the local Rotary Club since 1996, serving as President three times.

He is passionate about addressing the challenges facing Ryde—both its built environment and its communities—and is dedicated to supporting its rejuvenation
