People with a passion for Ryde and a track record of bringing people together are being urged to put themselves forward for a key role helping shape the town’s future as applications close next week.
Ryde Neighbourhood Board is reminding potential applicants that expressions of interest for its new Independent Chair must be submitted by midnight on Wednesday 30 September.
The voluntary leadership role offers a unique opportunity to help guide Ryde’s ambitious ten-year Vision and play a leading part in shaping how up to £19.5 million of Government’s Pride in Place funding is used to benefit the town and its local community.
The successful candidate will act as an ambassador for Ryde, helping to champion the town locally and nationally, build strong partnerships and ensure the Board remains community-led, transparent and focused on delivering long-term benefits.
The role is open to people with strong connections to Ryde through living, working or playing a prominent role in the community. Applicants cannot hold elected political office.
The Board is now inviting expressions of interest in the Independent Chair’s role from people with a genuine passion for Ryde and a commitment to helping the town realise its full potential.
Joe Robertson, MP for East Wight said: “This is a really important opportunity for someone who cares deeply about Ryde and wants to play an active role in helping shape its future.
We know there are people across Ryde with leadership skills, ideas and commitment and who can bring people together and help make the most of the opportunities ahead. We would encourage anyone who thinks they could make a difference to get in touch and find out more before the deadline.”
The role is expected to require a considerable time commitment; a likely minimum of three days each month over an initial three-year period, with the opportunity to apply for a second term.
The Board is particularly interested in hearing from people who can demonstrate leadership experience, strategic thinking, partnership working and community engagement as well as the ability to build consensus and inspire collaboration.
Applicants are asked to submit a supporting statement of no more than 500 words explaining their interest in the role, their connection to Ryde and the skills and experience they would bring to rydeneighbourhoodboard@iow.gov.uk A CV can also be included.
Applications close at midnight on 30 September 2026. The successful candidate is expected to take up the role by January 2027.
